On Saturday afternoon, the Scots Men's Lacrosse team traveled to Oberlin (OH) and were defeated by the Yeomen 12-3. With the loss, Alma is now 2-4 on 2013 season and will play next on March 25 when they host Huntingdon College at Bahlke Field.
"Today was a tale of two halves as we came out flat in the first and dug ourselves a deep hole," remarked Scots Head Coach Jason Levesque. "I'm proud of our young team to have the fortitude to battle back and play hard in the second half. If we can put together a full 60 minutes, we'll start to see the results we are striving for every day in practice."
Oberlin scored three minutes into the contest and led 3-0 after the first quarter. The Yeomen added six more tallies in the second frame and took a commanding 9-0 advantage into halftime. The Scots were outshot by a margin of 22-7 during the first 30 minutes.
Oberlin scored the only goal of the third quarter before Alma finally got on the board with 10:18 left in the contest on a unassisted tally by So. MF Tyler Bennett (New Lothrop, Mich./New Lothrop). After another Oberline goal made it 11-1, the Scots' Fr. MF Kyle Schnitzer (Aurora, CO/Smoky Hill) scored on an assist by Fr. MF Jonathan Lindback (Tavernier, Fla./Coral Shores) at 7:58.
The Scots notched their final goal of the contest with 2:21 remaining on a Lindback goal that was assisted by Fr. MF Marshall Argenta (Stafford, NY/Notre Dame), last week's MIAA Player of the Week. That tally made the final score 12-3 in favor of the hometown Yeomen.
Schnitzer and Lindback led the team with three shots on goal a piece, while So. GK Daric Mueller (DeWitt, Mich./DeWitt) had seven saves in next for the Scots.
