Monday afternoon saw the Alma College Men's Lacrosse team host Huntingdon College (Ala.) at Bahlke Field and the visiting Hawks throttled the Scots by a final score of 10-1. With the loss, Alma is now 2-5 on the season, while Huntingdon improve to 6-5 in 2013.
"Bottom line, we need to play consistently at the level we're capable," said Alma Head Coach Jason Levesque. "Last game we came out flat in the first and played great in the second. Today, we came out strong in the first but got into some trouble by taking a play off here and there in the second.
"We showed flashes of good lacrosse in the third and fourth quarters, then at times some lazy lacrosse. We're young, we're growing but we can't use that as a crutch. We know what we need to do to be successful. When we put 60 minutes together, we will be."
The two teams played a very competitive yet scoreless first quarter before Huntingdon finally scored at 13:51 of the second quarter. The tally led to five more for the Hawks as the visitors took a 6-0 advantage into halftime.
The Scots came out strong in the third quarter and notched an unassisted goal by Fr. MF/A Kyle Schnitzer (Aurora, CO/Stony Hill) at 13:40 to make it a 6-1 affair. However, that is all the offense that Alma would be able to muster as the Hawks scored two goals in the third and two in the fourth to secure the 10-1 victory.
Next up for the Scots is a visit from Bethany College (WV) on Saturday afternoon at Bahlke Field. Game time is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
