Scots Men's Lacrosse defeats Bethany (WV) 11-7 on Saturday at Bahlke Field

The Scots Men's Lacrosse team hosted Bethany College (WV) on Saturday afternoon at Bahlke Field and came away with a 11-7 victory in the last non-league game before MIAA play starts on Tuesday. Alma is now 3-5 on the season, while the Bison fell to 2-7 in 2012-13.

"I'm very proud of our effort and resiliency shown by our young team today," said Alma Head Coach Jason Levesque. "They came out strong and buried their first one fairly early, but we came back with a couple of our own to take control. We're still a little inconsistent but it is starting to come together.

"We let them back in at times and they tried stringing a couple of runs together but each time we had a counter attack to answer back. It's great to see the team growing together."

Bethany scored the first goal of the game at the 9:50 mark of the first quarter for a 1-0 lead on a sunny, cool afternoon. The Scots responded with two tallies of their own at 7:32 and then again 1:16 later, when Fr. M/A Jonathan Lindback (Tavernier, Fla./Coral Springs) and Fr. M/A Stephan Salceda (Waukesha, Wis./St. John's Northwestern Military Academy).

Alma scored two early second quarter goals before allowing one late at 2:48 as the Scots went into halftime with the 6-3 advantage. The Bison made the game 6-4 at 7:17 of the third quarter but two goals in the final five minutes - by Salceda and Fr. M/A Kyle Schnitzer (Aurora, Col./Smoky Hill) - made it 8-4 after three.

Each team scored three goals in the fourth quarter, but the Bison could not ever cut their deficit to less than three goals, as the Scots were able to walk off the field with the 11-7 victory.

Lindback led the Scots with three goals and an assist, while So. MF Tyler Bennett (New Lothrop, Mich./New Lothrop) added two tallies and a helper. Salceda had two goals and Fr. GK Al Lesperance (Farmington, Mich./Farmington) had seven saves in net for Alma.

The Scots will play their first-ever MIAA game on Tuesday afternoon when they host Hope College at Bahlke Field. Start time for the game is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
