The Alma College Men's Lacrosse team concluded their 2013 season on Friday afternoon by hosting Hanover College in a non-league contest. The Panthers defeated the Scots by a score of 7-2 at a sunny Bahlke Field. Alma finished their season with an overall record of 3-12 (0-6, MIAA), while Hanover left town with a mark of 5-10.
"As a team we're pretty disappointed right now as we played well, played hard throughout the contest," said Alma Head Coach Jason Levesque. "A couple of untimely penalties and miscues cost us on the scoreboard but we battled to the end. Myself and Coach Rowley are extremely proud of this young group.
"We've made tremendous strides forward this season. We've got a very tight locker room and we're extremely excited about where this program is headed. This year of experience will be monumental for our program moving forward."
It was a tight defensive contest throughout the first half but Alma was able to make it 1-0 just two minutes into the game. The goal was scored by Fr. Jonathan Lindback (Tavernier, Fla./Coral Shores) hit the back of the net assisted by Fr. MF/A Kyle Schnitzer (Aurora, Col./Smoky Hill).
Hanover scored with just 1:24 remaining in the half and the two teams went into the break deadlocked at 1-1.
The Panthers scored the only three goals of the third quarter to open up a 4-1 lead heading into the final 15 minutes. The score was 6-1 before Alma finally scored again as Lindback scored unassisted with 12:51 left in the game. However, the Scots would not score again and Hanover walked off the field with the 7-2 victory.
Alma was outshot by Hanover by a margin of 42-18, including 22-12 in shots on goal. Lindback led the team with six SOG's, while Fr. D Isaiah Colmore (Dundalk, MD/Patapsco) added two.
Fr. GK Al Lesperance (Farmington, Mich./Farmington) played the entire game in goal for Alma and recorded 15 saves in the loss.
