Women's Lacrosse defeats Calvin 14-4 on Friday afternoon

On a cold and grey afternoon, the Alma College Women's Lacrosse team defeated visiting Calvin College 14-4 on Friday afternoon. With the victory, the Scots are now 4-1 in the MIAA and 13-2 overall, while the Knights fell to 1-3 in the league and 3-10 in 2013.

Calvin scored first on a goal at 22:16 of the first half before the Scots scored the next seven en route to a 7-1 halftime advantage. So. MF Tracy Gallihugh (Lansing, Mich./Waverly) tied the game at 1-1 at 20:42, the first of her three goals in the first frame.

The Scots' other four goals of the half were two each by Fr. A Ashton Street (Brighton, Mich./Brighton) and Sr. M Mary Harwood (Port Huron, Mich./Port Huron Northern).

In the first eight minutes of the second half, Street, Gallihugh and Street again scored giving the Scots a 10-1 advantage. Sr. A Christie Harvilla (Okemos, Mich./Okemos) made the score 11-2 before Calvin fought back with two goals of their own to cut the deficit to 11-4.

However, the game was never in doubt on this afternoon. Havrilla again, So. A Addison Duffy (Bloomfield Hills, Mich./Lahser) and Gallihugh closed out the scoring as they gave Alma the final 14-4 margin of victory.

Gallihugh led the Scots with eight shots on goal, while Street and So. M Sydney Bryce (Lake Orion, Mich./Lake Orion) added six and four respectively. Jr. GK Stephanie Herman (Bay City, Mich./All-Saints Central) had nine saves in net to earn the victory.

The Scots close out the regular season next Wednesday evening when they play at Albion College. The match is scheduled to begin at 7:00 p.m.
