Scots Women's Lacrosse hosted first-ever MIAA playoff game on Thursday and defeated Hope 20-12

The Alma College Women's Lacrosse team, under the guidance of Head Coach Laurie Jordan, took on Hope College on Thursday afternoon in a MIAA Semi-Final playoff contest at Bahlke Field. The Scots defeated the Flying Dutch 20-12 to advance to the MIAA Championship on Saturday at Adrian.

2013 marks the first year on MIAA Lacrosse so today's matchup was a milestone for the league.

The Scots are now 15-2 overall in 2013, while the Flying Dutch finished 6-9 this season. Alma defeated Hope by a score of 14-8 in the team's first meeting on April 2 in Holland.

Alma scored the first four goals of the game before Hope answered with three in a row to make it a 4-3 game at the 12:43 mark of the first half. However, the Scots outscored the Flying Dutch by a margin of 5-1 the rest of the half.

So. MF Tracy Gallihugh (Lansing, Mich./Waverly) had four goals in the first 30 minutes, while Fr. A Ashton Street (Brighton, Mich./Brighton) and Sr. A Christie Havrilla (Okemos, Mich./Okemos) each had two.

In the second half, Hope fought hard to get back in the game, but Alma was a poised group and never let up enough for the visitors to find a groove. Alma led 11-7 at the 22:28 mark and 18-11 with 4:06 left.

The Scots then closed out the final minutes en route to the 20-12 playoff victory in front of an enthusiastic group of fans on a warm spring afternoon.

Gallihugh finished the contest with seven goals and one assist and added 10 shots on goal, while Street tallied four goals and one helper along with seven shots on goal. Jr. GK Stephanie Herman (Bay City, Mich./All-Saints Central) played all 60 minutes in goal for the Scots and recorded 11 saves in picking up the victory.
