On Saturday afternoon, the Alma College women's lacrosse team found themselves in Ohio as they took on Oberlin College. The Scots lost 12-5 in a match played at Baldwin Wallace University due to field conditions at Oberlin.
Alma is now 4-3 on the season while the Yeowomen improved to 3-0 in 2014.
The Scots, under the direction of Head Coach Laurie Jordan, fell behind 4-0 in the first nine minutes of the game before So. A Ashton Street (Brighton/Brighton) scored at the 15:51 mark of the first half. The Yeowomen led 6-1 when Alma added an unassited tally by Jr. M Tracy Gallihugh (Lansing/Waverly) with 12:12 left in the frame.
However, Oberlin would knock in four more goals in the remaining minutes of the half and took a very comfortable 10-2 advantage into the halftime break.
The second half was a little better for Alma as they outscored the Yeowomen overall, but they were unable to make a dent into the deficiti and eventually fell by seven goals. At 27:34 of the second half, Gallihugh scored her second goal of the game to make it 11-3, but it would be 23 minutes before the Scots would tally again.
Fr. A Stephanie Chou (East Brunswick, NJ/East Brunswick) made it 12-4 with 4:24 left in the game and Street scored (assisted by Gallihugh) at the 2:19 mark to close out the scoring at 12-5.
Alma was outshot in the game by a margin of 24-13 and Sr. GK Stephanie Herman (Bay City/All-Saints Central) finished with 12 saves. So. D Caroline Stanka (Baltimore, MD/Lochraven) had four ground balls for the Scots, while Gallihugh and Street each finished with two goals.
