On Sunday afternoon, the Scots' women's lacrosse squad finished up a two-game weekend road trip with a contest at Otterbein University. The Cardinals jumped out quickly and often, thumping Alma by a final score of 14-2 on a windy and cold afternoon in Ohio.
With the loss, the Scots are now 4-4 on the season, while Otterbein improved to 3-2.
Otterbein University controlled nearly the entire match as the Cardinals scored four times in the first seven minutes en route to an 8-0 lead by the 4:10 mark of the first half. Alma got on the board when Jr. M Tracy Gallihugh (Lansing/Waverly) scored with 2:22 remaining in the frame. However, Otterbein was able to take an 8-1 advantage into halftime.
After the Cardinals scored the first goal of the second half, Fr. A Stephanie Chou (East Brunswick, NJ/East Brunswick) made it a 9-2 contest with a goal at the 20:51 mark. However, that would be the last time the Scots would find the net, while Otterbein did so five times to earn the 14-2 victory.
Sr. GK Stephanie Herman (Bay City/All-Saints Central) had seven saves in goal for Alma, while Sr. M ShaQuice Mullany (Indian River/Inland Lakes) paced the squad with four ground balls. Otterbein finished with a 27-13 shot advantage over the Scots and won 13 of 18 draw controls in the contest.
Next up for the Scots is a home date with Defiance College on Saturday, March 22. The match at Bahlke Field is scheduled to begin at 3:00 p.m.
