Women's Lacrosse defeated Trine 22-9 on Tuesday afternoon

The Alma College women's lacrosse team continued their 2014 season on Tuesday when they traveled to Trine University to take on the Thunder in a league match. Alma scored early and often en route to a 22-9 victory as they improved to 2-1 in the league and 7-5 overall.

Trine fell to 0-3 in the MIAA and 1-6 in 2014 with the loss.

The Thunder actually took a 1-0 lead as they scored just 1:40 into the contest. However, the Scots responded by scoring five goals in the next 4:51 to take a 5-1 advantage. Jr. M Tracy Gallihugh (Lansing/Waverly) scored three of Alma's goals in the surge.

Trine scored the next two to make it a 5-3 game, but the Scots would score three in row to increase the lead to 8-3. The onslaught continued from there as Alma finished the first half by outscoring the Thunder 10-2 after Trine had cut the deficit to two goals. Gallihugh finished with five tallies in the first frame, while So. Ashton Street (Brighton/Brighton) added three.

The hometeam came out and scored the first two goals of the half but it would not be enough. With the score at 15-7 five minutes into the final frame, the Scots would score again and never look back.

Alma scored seven of the contest's nine goals for the remainder of the game and was able to walk off the field with the big 13 point victory. Six different Scots scored the team's seven second half tallies as the wealth was spread proportionally.

Gallihugh finished the game with seven goals, while Street was next with four tallies. In addition, So. D Emily Reverman (Grand Ledge/Grand Ledge) was next with three goals in the victory.

Sr. GK Stephanie Herman (Bay City/All-Saints Central) had three saves, while Fr. GK Miranda Kruse (Ann Arbor/Ann Arbor Pioneer) played the second half in net and finished with four stops.

The Scots play next on Saturday at Hope College. Start time is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
