On Saturday, the Alma College Volleyball team concluded their participation in the 2013 Sommer Center Spiketacular hosted by Bluffton College. The Scots won both matches on the day to go 3-1 over the weekend as the team continued preparation for the MIAA schedule that begins Tuesday at Hope College.
In the morning contest, Bethany jumped out to the 2-1 advantage and had the Scots on the ropes in the fourth set. However, Alma rallied to win set four by a score of 25-22 sending the match to a fifth an deciding set. It was competitive throughout and was tied at 18-18 before the Scots hammered out the final two points to win 20-18 and take the match 3-2.
After a much needed rest, Alma took on the host Beavers in their final match of the tournament. The visitors took set one by a mark of 25-20 before Bluffton came back for a 26-24 victory to tie it at 1-1. However, the Scots wore down the hosts in the final two sets, winning 25-13 and 25-17 to close out the 3-1 victory.
Sr. MH Lea Klooster (Jenison, Mich./Jenison) was named to the 2013 All-Tournament team for her performance over the weekend. Klooster finished with a team-high 45 kills and 64 digs to go along with four blocked shots and 12 block assists.
