Alma Volleyball Head Coach Sarah Dehring to be Assistant Coach for USA D-3 Volleyball Team - Brazil 2014

Alma College volleyball Head Coach Sarah Dehring will join Scots Sr. MB Lea Klooster (Jenison/Jenison) on the USA D-3 Volleyball Team -Brazil Tour 2014. The team will compete in May and marks the first time that an Alma College athlete and/or coach has participated in the event.

"Obviously, this is a fantastic opporunity for Lea to continue playing some more volleyball and be a part of a wonderful experience," said Dehring. "For me, I am able to represent Alma College at a national and world-wide level and I take that responsibility seriously. It will be a lot of fun participating in the competition and we will also have the opportunity to get out into the public and do some positive things as well."

On Monday, Ron Smith, Director of USA Sports Tours & Events announced the roster and coaches for the USA D-3 Volleyball Team – Brazil Tour 2014. The team is made up of invited NCAA Division III volleyball players from throughout the United States. Team members have been recognized as All American, All Region and All Conference. 

"This is an outstanding group of volleyball players that come from nine different colleges and universities from six of the eight Regions."

The USA D-3 Volleyball Team will begin their Brazil Tour 2014 in Orlando, Florida on May 17th. The tour runs from May 17-26.  After team orientation and practice in Orlando the team departs for Sao Paulo, Brazil on Sunday, May 18th. The USA D-3 Volleyball Team will play matches on May 19, 20 and 21 in the state of Sao Paulo vs. selected teams from the region. On May 22nd the team travels to Rio de Janeiro for a match on May 23rd. The team will depart Brazil on the evening of May 25th and return to Orlando on May 26th.

While in Brazil the teams will experience educational, cultural and social aspects of Brazilian life through city, school and sports club visits. While in Rio the team will be staying on the famous Copacabana Beach and touring the Christ the Redeemer Statue and Sugar Loaf, two of the most recognizable landmarks in the world.
